The stadium can hold 20,000 people. Most of the matches are held in this stadium as it is superior to many other grounds in Pakistan. The maiden first-class match was played at Bugti Stadium between Balochistan and Sindh on October 29-31, 1954. Mohammad Munaf and and Amir Ghauri batted well and helped Sindh compile a decent total even with Akhtar Khan's good bowling.
The initial One-day International match was played in this stadium between hosts Pakistan and India on October 1, 1978. The Indian total had seemed insufficient in spite of an abrupt 50 from Mohinder Amarnath. Majid Khan and Zaheer Abbas seemed to be pacing Pakistan to success when Mohinder Amarnath bowled them in quick sequence. Bedi's captaincy and field engaging had much to do with India's victory. The last ODI at Quetta was played between Pakistan and Zimbabwe on October 29, 1996. Wasim Akram became the first bowler to take 300 wickets in One-day Internationals, in his 208th match when he stuck Houghton with his 4th ball of the match.

The National Cricket Academy (NCA) under the supervision of Mudassar Nazar, Mushtaq Ahmed, Ijaz Ahmed and Ali Zia with NCA top class coaches and Regional coaches is organising a Talent Hunt Program for the seam bowlers and spinners who are under age between 17 and 21 in the remote areas from all over the country from 26 October to 11 November 2016. They will pick 30 players who will experience a fifteen-day Skill Development Camp at Multan HPC in December 2016.
